In this innovative book, The Gospels in Playdough, Liz Anstey, a primary school teacher, uses the well known educational practices of "hands-on" learning and applies them to teaching children about God.
This is active and effective Scripture engagement.
The Gospels in Playdough contains 73 stories about Jesus. Each story is set out in a way that guides the parent or teacher through the process of engaging their children. The appendix contains more examples and a recipe for playdough.
Rev'd Neil Millar, a lecturer at St. Mark's National Theological Centre, has described that book as "a creative and enjoyable way of introducing children in their most formative years to the life-changing story of Jesus".
Liz Anstey has trialled the use of this resource with a kindergarten class as well as her own children, and has asked other families to trial the book as well.
One of the couples who took up the challenge of the trial said: "This hands on approach to reading the Bible allows while families to get in touch with the God who formed and shaped us". "We warmly commend this book as a helpful tool that allows your child to enjoy times of learning and growing in God".
